Daizee with Skin Problems

DaizeeMy name is Julie Swales and I'm writing because I've been so amazed with the changes I have seen to my dogs skin issues since we moved in a more holistic direction.  My sweet terrier Daizee, who is 5 years old, had one Staph infection after another.  That meant one course of antibiotics after another as that was all that could clear the infections. However, the moment the antibiotics finished the infections would come back.  She would scratch and was generally very uncomfortable.  And even when she seemed fine, no scratching, there were still little lumps and bumps on her tummy, around her tail, and on her back.

It was suggested we visit a renowned allergist and I called them to discuss what the treatments would be. More antibiotics, steroids, and then ongoing treatments of more antibiotics and lots of exploration to find the cause. This wasnt for me as I knew each time Daizee had antibiotics they were damaging so much more in her body and if they were supposed to work why did her skin infections keep coming back?

I found a wonderful holistic vet and after one visit we started to notice a change.  I did just as the Dr asked adding specific supplements and herbs to her food and I was shocked how quickly her skin issues began to clear up.  It has now been about 6 months and we she hasn't had one skin issue at all.  Her coat is better, her personality seems calmer and she generally seems happier and less stressed.

Another amazing thing is that she used to have her anal glands expressed every month and she has only had to have them done once, very early on in our holistic treatments.  Other than that not at all.  This tells me that even on an internal level her body is working better.

I cannot honestly believe what a transformation we have witnessed.  I so wish other people realized the benefits of using more holistic treatments for their pet care.  Hopefully that will be the case soon.

From Julie and a very happy and healthy Daizee.

Bailey with Spleen Cancer

 Bailey with Spleen Cancer

“…My beloved Beagle named “Bailey” was diagnosed with spleen cancer in November 2016.  She was losing a lot of weight quickly so I took her to her normal veterinarian and he wanted to operate on her.  At that time Bailey was over 16 years old.  I agreed but after talking to several people, I had second thoughts so I cancelled the operation.  When I called the vet it was mentioned to give her the herb “Yunnan Baiyao” and I could get it in the health food store.  After trying many stores with no luck I reached out to my good friend Amy that makes essential oils and she recommend Dr. Mary Ellen of Sayre Veterinary Acupuncture...  At that time Bailey was only given a few days to a couple of weeks to live.  She was that bad.

Diablo - the Comeback Kid

Diablo, cancer
In 1994, my father was diagnosed with cancer. The disease was advanced so alternative treatments, we were told by professionals, weren’t a realistic alternative. The best and brightest minds in oncology decided aggressive radiation would give my dad his best chance.

Two months later he was dead.

My family grieved and while I urged my lonely mom to get a pet, she wasn't ready. Nor was she ready the next year. Or the next.  Five years went by until she decided it was time.

We visited a breeder who had five toy fox terrier puppies, all so bouncy they spent more time in the air the on the ground. Of the five, one loomed large and in charge, at a whopping 1.5 pounds. He was more willful than the rest. He wasn't taking no for an answer. He was coming home with us by his choice; we had no say in the matter. And he would go almost two months in our care before being named because we desperately hoped he would outgrow the only name that felt appropriate. He didn’t. So the name stuck: Diablo.
