Winston with Kidney Failure

My gorgeous 21-year-old Siamese cat's given name is Winston Alexander Churchill Sullivan. I call him Bunny FuFu, which stands for BFF.   He has beautiful blue eyes framed in black markings with a very pink tongue.  In March of 2010, Winston was diagnosed with renal failure and I was heart sick.  Due to a treatment of homeopathic and western meds, he is still thriving and I am overjoyed.  He jumps up on the bed, talks and watches TV.  He is very alert and the vet says he looks and acts more like he's 12 years old.

I am sure Winston has excellent genes.  From the time I got him as a gift at 4-weeks of age (a bit early I know to be weaned from his mom) he showed a lot of spunk.  When I brought him home, he entered a household with two other cats.  The "top" cat immediately hissed, and this little ball of fur stood up on his hind legs and hissed right back.  He was not intimidated by his oldest brother in the least.

Winston is a super affectionate little guy.  He loves to be brushed and petted and eagerly listens to the soft tones of my voice.  He has been with me during some difficult times, and I adore him.  I think he deserves to be recognized as a Senior cat who knows how to live well in his declining years. Although I have been a "helicopter" mom hovering over him all these years, it is his strength of character and stamina that has extended his life.  He just turned 21 on April 13, 2015.  In  the first photo (taken a few days before his 21st birthday) you xan see him "reading" just before nap time.  The other photo gives you a sense of his beauty and alertness.

I thank God for His goodness in giving me this little creature and for the kind and loving support of our holistic vet.

With cat kisses and loud purrs,

 J Sullivan

Bailey with Spleen Cancer

 Bailey with Spleen Cancer

“…My beloved Beagle named “Bailey” was diagnosed with spleen cancer in November 2016.  She was losing a lot of weight quickly so I took her to her normal veterinarian and he wanted to operate on her.  At that time Bailey was over 16 years old.  I agreed but after talking to several people, I had second thoughts so I cancelled the operation.  When I called the vet it was mentioned to give her the herb “Yunnan Baiyao” and I could get it in the health food store.  After trying many stores with no luck I reached out to my good friend Amy that makes essential oils and she recommend Dr. Mary Ellen of Sayre Veterinary Acupuncture...  At that time Bailey was only given a few days to a couple of weeks to live.  She was that bad.

Diablo - the Comeback Kid

Diablo, cancer
In 1994, my father was diagnosed with cancer. The disease was advanced so alternative treatments, we were told by professionals, weren’t a realistic alternative. The best and brightest minds in oncology decided aggressive radiation would give my dad his best chance.

Two months later he was dead.

My family grieved and while I urged my lonely mom to get a pet, she wasn't ready. Nor was she ready the next year. Or the next.  Five years went by until she decided it was time.

We visited a breeder who had five toy fox terrier puppies, all so bouncy they spent more time in the air the on the ground. Of the five, one loomed large and in charge, at a whopping 1.5 pounds. He was more willful than the rest. He wasn't taking no for an answer. He was coming home with us by his choice; we had no say in the matter. And he would go almost two months in our care before being named because we desperately hoped he would outgrow the only name that felt appropriate. He didn’t. So the name stuck: Diablo.
