Leslie McIntyre
In 1999, she returned home to Bend, Oregon. She practiced referral equine internal medicine, equine neonatal intensive care, acupuncture, and general equine ambulatory work at Bend Equine Medical Center. She did small animal acupuncture and diagnostic ultrasound/echocardiography for many of local veterinary clinics and clients.
After six rewarding years, she decided to focus her practice on acupuncture, Chinese herbs, homotoxicology, and diagnostic ultrasound/echocardiography. This led to the creation of Sage Veterinary Alternatives (SVA) in September 2005.
In 2005, she completed the -Heel Homotoxicology course and certification through Westbrook University. By 2006, she attained her advanced Traditional Chinese Veterinary Herbal and Food Therapy Certification from the Chi Institute in Florida.
In 2008, she completed Canine Osteopathy and Craniosacral Therapy studies with Patricia Kortekaas, P.T. She also won a scholarship to China with the Chi Institute. She lectured for the Chi Institute; then, she traveled and learned invaluable traditional Chinese medical skills.
To further her manipulative skills, she completed Options for Animals Animal Chiropractic Certification. She also attained International Veterinary Chiropractic Association Certification in 2010.
Dr. McIntyre added Laser therapy to their practice. She completed the American Institute of Medical Laser Applications for small animal and equine course in 2011.
In 2014, Dr. McIntyre completed Canine Rehabilitation Institute certification coursework. This course focuses on physical therapy for geriatric and performance-related musculoskeletal as well as neurologic issues. Physical therapy is an amazing compliment to acupuncture and chiropractic. She received her certification, CCRT, from Canine Rehabilitation Institute in 2015.
After an accident at a barn in 2019, she was forced to retire from equine practice and now exclusively works on small animals. In her free time, she enjoys cycling, Nordic skiing, camping, and traveling with her husband, Kevin, and son, Carson. She loves to cook gourmet meals as well.
